The board met in regular session Monday to audit the month’s bills. No urgent business appeared, and the session was brief. They will reconvene next Tuesday to receive bids for several county bridges.
Morton Hitch aged 33 of Princeton marries Frances R Myers aged 21 from Gibson County. The union is recorded in the county marriage license ledger with both parties named and linked to their respective locales.
Washington dispatch reports a British supplement defending the order in council and a separate note on the steamer Nachez seized en route to the United States. American objections are deemed untenable, and Britain claims the right to halt shipments from neutrals bound for Germany. Germany’s Frye note is noted but considered less significant.

Evangeline Robison four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Robison visiting Marion Iowa was struck by a motorcycle and died within an hour. No details given. Rider Chambers in jail pending investigation claims the child darted into the street and he could not stop in time. The family plans to move to Montana where Mr Wilson works and the mother and child were visiting.
Paris reports incendiary bombs and flaming liquids used by German forces in three assaults on the Meuse heights and Pont A Mousson area. An official war office statement says all German assaults were repulsed. Night sees renewed infantry clashes along the line, with German attacks around Souchez beaten off as French counterattacks tear up entanglements.
Attorney M C Embree of Princeton files in the local circuit court a petition asking the Patoka River section from near Winslow to seven miles northwest of Princeton be dredged and straightened. The matter will be heard at the September term per Petersburg Item.
One year ago today in Europe’s big war German armies invaded Luxemburg despite treaty violations. Russian troops crossed Germany’s border at multiple points with a skirmish reported. Military authorities declare Warsaw’s defense thwarted direct assault. They credit Austro German guns and forces advancing along the Lublin Choln line for the city’s capture, noting the gates outside the capital remained fiercely guarded despite outer breakthroughs.
Hiram Harris, 52, a farm hand from Evansville, was struck and killed instantly by a Princeton traction car at Erskine station five miles north of the city on Saturday night at 10 30. Motorman Charles White and Conductor Orville Land were in charge. Harris staggered onto the track and the body was brought to Evansville unmapped for hours. Authorities noted signs of intoxication on the body.

Members and nonmembers are urged to attend to discuss the reopening of the Princeton Sanitarium project and other items. The secretary-manager notes the combined wisdom of the Chamber is sought.
The text accuses the former Turkish regime of grave abuses and notes an order for current cruelties issued in early May, executed with the efficiency attributed to the Turkish police system.
