San Francisco August 1 reports say President Harding is resting in bed reading papers and building up strength through rest and sleep. Doctors anticipate a slow recovery and note no immediate danger, while remaining vigilant as healing proceeds and pneumonia and ptomaine poisoning fade.
Russell Marshall was fined five dollars and costs for speeding after arrest Wednesday morning. Robert Quarles, a second motorcycle cop victim, was told he exceeded the limit and fined five dollars and costs before the mayor. William Mowry of Bottom grocery delivery pleaded guilty to speeding and paid five dollars and costs. Edwin Wedeking of Dale was taken into custody for lacking license pirates and driver’s ID card after claiming he traded the car weeks earlier and hadn’t licensed it. He was fined five dollars and costs. James Arthur Mason was jailed at noon on complaint by his wife for cursing and abusive behavior upon returning from work.
The Daily Democrat advertises stove sales as many install furnaces, urging readers to sell existing stoves before winter and that buyers must act fast to secure a unit.
The Country Club golf tournament begins at 10 AM with a 9:30 entry deadline for entrants. The final is at 1:30 PM, with prizes including golf balls. A noon basket dinner serves members families and guests. A 3 PM match game features HH Leonard of West Baden against Alex Ritchie of Evansville Country Club.
Harold Nolte leads Wrangell Island relief expedition for Alan Crawford party marooned since 1920. The fire department ran two calls in rapid sequence about 7 30 Tuesday night. The first was a practice turnout. after returning to the station they were sent to William Kolb at 1004 South Main formerly South Main Street Tel where a stove exploded causing minor damage.
The Dague reports rumors of a royalist move near Doorn home of the ex emperor with signs including hoisting the imperial flag at several locations and a visit by the former Crown Prince aboard the yacht Flohenzolern off Wieringen. Princess Hermine is linked to the possible plot.
William Henry Lyles age 66, a colored resident, died Wednesday at his home west of the city from organic heart trouble. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 pm at Lyles Station Methodist church. The body will be brought to the city and then to Maumie for burial. Survived by his wife Martha Lyles and a son Manuel Lyles who live west of the city.
Harvey Lucas died at his Owensville home Wednesday morning at 10 o clock. He was 60 years old and is survived by his wife and two children Mrs Clark Lucas and Edgar Lucas both of Owensville. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Showers and thunderstorms expected tonight and Thursday with cooler air arriving Thursday, especially in the northwest. Tuesday's high 91 and low 65, with party Goudy noted. Last year highs reached 82 and lows 66 with clear skies. Wednesday's high around 88 at G and M. Sunset Wednesday 7:00. Sunrise Thursday 4:55.

Aug 1 inquiry by the attorney general and the state securities commission assesses the financial condition of Western Drop Forge Co of Marion a Dollings Co subsidiary. Officials focus on Marion and International Note and Loan Co of Indianapolis as they are licensed under securities rules. An unofficial Indiana stock figure reaches about 12.4 million dollars with outcomes pending from receiver Bert McBride and subsidiaries.

Hoosier Male Quartet delivers You Tell Her and Who's Sorry Now, with the program opening Overture Princess of India and marches. In West Hoboken New Jersey on August 1 a 9 year old boy Joseph Genatt was killed by two Great Dane dogs at Floral park North Bergen. The dogs owned by Adolph Bentz who leased the park are under $2500 bail for manslaughter. Two other children witnessed the attack as bystanders failed to intervene and the boy died before help arrived.
INDIANAPOLIS Aug 1 Approval of the electric lighting contract for Francisco Gibson county was asked in a petition filed with the public service commission. The contract calls for four thousand dollars in cost to the town for five years service.
Ethel Bush 25 of Louisville is accused of abducting Jean Cowebra Webb, three and a half, adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Bert Webb of Princeton. Police in Indiana and Illinois launched a regional search after Bush visited Tuesday, promising candy before fleeing with the child toward a 1:42 southbound traction.
Reports say thieves hijacked a wagon load of fowls at New Augusta and headed for the Indianapolis market. Police received word that enough birds to feed a regiment were en route to supply Indianapolis as authorities pursue the thieves.
An idle room costs 25 cents for one day and 3 dollars per week. The ad suggests spending 26 cents on a rent advertisement in The Daily Democrat to save the remaining quarters each idle day.
