Atlin camp teems with mining plans and big ore estimates

Captain Alexander reports the Atlin engineer group will mine through winter, blocking out ore from a vast gold property valued at about 2.5 million dollars in sight. Seven men stay on to prepare reduction works while shipments to Tacoma smelter were limited by cost and infrastructure. Capt. Alexander and Mrs. Alexander traveled south aboard the Princess Alice.

Married Nickerson and Kinkade Depart for Winnipeg

Yesterday at 11 10 a wedding joined Mr George W Nickerson long time resident and Miss Lois Margaret Kinkade daughter of Mrs Ella Kinkade The ceremony by Rev Father McGraw They left for Winnipeg to spend the winter amid a large crowd at the train station

Ganong Overseas Chocolates Box For Mailing

Rome reports continued Italian gains from Gorizia to the Adriatic. The Italians have held their existing advances and won further successes, taking additional points of vantage and 35,000 more prisoners.

Soldier William H. Tucker Killed in Action in Belgium

William H. Tucker a young Bulkley Valley farmer formerly of Strathcona Alberta died September 26 serving with the 10th Battalion in Belgium. Born in Watford England he emigrated to Canada in 1902 and lived near Smithers before joining his brother Ernest in Bulkley Valley. He was 84 years old.

Russians report advances east of Kovel and near Lemberg

Petrograd dispatch notes severe battles east of Kovel and southeast of Lemberg. Russians claim to have re-occupied trenches recently lost on the Stokhod River and to have driven the enemy back at several points. William Miller arrived yesterday from Atlin.

Nearly Two Million Pounds of Halibut Landed In October

The October totals at this centre show halibut landings near 1,890,100 pounds. Salmon receipts declined to 686,00 pounds as the season closed, with cod at 117,900 pounds and smelts at 3,850 pounds.

Barge Donald D Adrift With Six Aboard Rescued by Prince John

A barge named Donald D with six crew members drifted all night in heavy seas off Queen Charlotte Sound after a hawser parted. Captain Davies of the Prince John found and rescued them near Calvert Island. the barge, used by Canadian Fish & Cold Storage, drifted toward Fitzroy Reef and is likely a wreck.

Atlin Gold Output Half a Million Reported

Arrivals by steamer report Atlin camp production near half a million dollars for the year. The season is described as average. The information came from Atlin arrivals aboard the Princess Alice, including James Lipscombe, agent for the White Pass Company, who travels south for the winter.

Violent fighting reported as Austro German advance in Romania

Bucharest reports ongoing combat as Austro German forces push into the Rumanians south of Konstadt and Hoenannstadt. Rumanians claim to have gained in Buzen Valley and to have captured Mount Taturumio while enemy lines extend in the Rothenthurm Pass with hundreds taken prisoner.

British Advance Again on Somme Front and Raids

British forces pushed north on the Somme front with gains including entering a German trench at Gueude coun and raiding German trenches near Arras. Christian Science Society holds Sunday services at 11 a.m. and Sunday School at noon with a Wednesday 8 p.m. meeting at Hayes Building 245 Second Avenue.
