French and British forces advance with prisoners taken as German lines falter north of Arras. In Carency wood the French report 1,256 prisoners and new village gains. Prince Rupert’s men may depart soon with the 48th Battalion warned for active service from Victoria.

A crowd of four or five hundred in Victoria attacked German clubs and the Blanshard Hotel in protest over Lusitania drownings. Soldiers led the mob breaking doors and smashing property worth 20 000 to 25 000 pounds. Major damages hit Megers Leiser & Co Lenz and Lowenberg premises on Yates Street. Mayor Stewart calls for investigation into military involvement.
The name of R I B Warton of the 1st Canadian Engineers appears among late casualties. A Vancouver born English native, he was 34 and practiced law in Atlantic City with W. F. Fisher before enlisting. He joined the engineers in North Vancouver and aided trench line work at night. His next of kin is his mother in Hastborne England.
Settlers increase on the lands amid growing slogging camps, with camps expanding and more settlers occupying areas previously unsettled. Local officials note rising camp activity and land access concerns.
