Oil Burning Locomotive Enters Service on GTP Line
The GTP has put an oil burning locomotive into service at the western end of the line. A Sunday night passenger train from Smithers in was the first to use the engine, and it operated excellently. The service reduced delays caused by interchanging east of Fort George and helped the heavy train make up time despite its weight.

Turks Defeated With Heavy Losses by Russian Forces
Report from Petrograd says in Khori Dalman near the Caucasus after two days of fighting Russian troops launched a determined offensive and completely defeated the Turks. Turkish losses are estimated as very heavy with more than 3 500 dead found on the battlefield. The Turkish hospital and its staff were captured at Dalman. The pursuit of the defeated Turks continues.

Death on Survey Vessel Alters Prince Rupert Call
The U S government vessel Kings and Winge halted at Prince Rupert after a crewman, Albert Marnette, died aboard en route from Seattle to Ketchikan. Immigration surgeon Dr McNeill found life extinct, and the body was to be landed in Alaska to avoid local legal complications. The two masted schooner with auxiliary power, commanded by Capt Mornas, continued to Alaska.
