Two Lives Lost in Santa Monica Grand Prix

In Santa Monica on February 28 two drivers died during the Grand Prix. Paul Frederick Seigel was killed when his car struck the curb on Los Angeles Street. J. B. Marquis, leading at eighty miles per hour, lost control at a turn, the car overturned and crushed him. the machine suffered only minor damage. This marked the first serious accident on the Santa Monica course.

Prince Rupert Millwright John Carthew Died at 56

John Carthew, a longtime Prince Rupert resident and expert millwright turned boat builder, died at Prince Rupert General Hospital at age 56 after a brief illness from blood poisoning following a finger injury. He helped build canneries in earlier industry days and had connections in Virginia and Comox, with brothers in Comox and Vancouver Island. Funeral notices follow.
