Granby Men Back War Effort With Monthly Pay Donation

Granby Smelter officials and workers in Annox pledged a daily wage each month to support the war effort. The first funds will buy a machine gun and later support Red Cross funds. The plan, led by Supt Williams, includes a notable monthly donation of about 2500 dollars from local staff, with contributions also referenced from Prince Rupert.

Atlin hydro-magnesite deposit to be tested for war use

Owners have long kept the Atlin hydro-magnesite deposit dormant. Armstrong and Gibbs with others plan to sack 2 000 tons ready for shipment, taking 14 000 sacks this week. The material, containing magnesium in compound form, is believed to temper high grade steel. Destination remains unknown and quiet. They traveled aboard the Princess Alice on Monday.

Lost Life by Accident at Granby Smelter

Edward B. Allen, a Granby Smelter mechanic, was crushed to death while placing a water jacket. A native of St. John New Brunswick, he had lived in the West for years. The body was embalmed for Edmonds Washington relatives and brought by the steamer Prince George. Mineral services were held at Annox by Rev. Mr. Atkinson with R. of P. Lodge members in attendance.

Rev Dr Chown, General Superintendent of the Methodist Church in Canada, arrives Friday by the G T P and will preach at the local church on Sunday morning and evening. He is renowned for solid sermons and broad influence across the Dominion.

Citizens honor late figure with crowded public funeral

A large turnout gathered to pay last respects to the deceased as mourners filled the ceremony, reflecting widespread public regard for the individual. Funeral rites proceeded with community attendance and floral tributes.
