Order to Masters of Vessels to Report Suspicious Craft

Ottawa issues an all vessels on Canadian coasts alert urging sharp watch and immediate reporting of any suspicious craft. Small fishing and coasting vessels should report findings to the nearest Customs Officer for telegraph transmission to Halifax Dockyard or Esquimalt Dockyard depending on coast. Only definite facts, not hearsay, should be sent.

South Africa ready to send force to Europe

Capetown reports General Botha cabled Britain that German power is broken in South Africa. Boers may soon go to the firing line in Europe as Britain prepares for war involvement. The Adriatic carried a record war cargo valued at four million pounds with 250 transport wagons and heavy restrictions at Liverpool arrival.

Serbians and Montenegrins Prepare to Leave for Front

On Thursday morning a large group of Serbians and Montenegrins from this city and nearby will depart for eastern Canada to join their armies in the war against Germany and Austria. About 75 in Prince Rupert and thousands in Montreal have answered the call. Local volunteers raised roughly $140 to aid the relief of their nations through the Red Cross, a fund they chose to send rather than aid themselves. The men are described as hardworking and fit for training, and a station gathering is planned to see them off. The day also featured a successful Methodist Strawberry Festival netting about $50.

Deputy Minister Urges Keeping Money in Province for Prosperity

Vancouver Consumers' League hears Deputy Minister of Agriculture W. E. B. Scott warn that about 22 million dollars sent out of British Columbia for agricultural products should be kept locally. He notes 88 percent of dairy, 66 percent of fruit, and substantial poultry imports could be produced in province, urging residents to buy BC fruit and eggs to support lasting prosperity.

Bids Offered to Roumania by Germany Russia and Austria

London July 13 Germany and Russia urge Roumania to join the war with promises. Austria offers to cede Bessarabia to Roumania in return for neutrality. Russia pledges to win Transylvania for Roumania. Austria also offers part of Bukowina for friendly neutrality.

Trade Licences Due Under Prince Rupert Bylaw

City of Prince Rupert stresses payment of trade licences by July 15 1915 under council resolution dated July 12 1915. Penalties include a $25 fine and possible 60 day imprisonment for unlicensed activity with licence display requirements.
