British Annihilate Turkish Force Under German Officers

A British force attacked a camp of about two hundred Turks and Arabs at Yor near the Gulf of Suez. Most were killed or captured. twenty camels and the enemy's stores were seized. British losses were one Gurkha killed and one wounded. An official Cairo statement notes the engagement followed long fighting.

Severe Fighting In Progress Against Germans On The Western Frontier

Paris reports ongoing heavy combat on the Belgian front with artillery actions at Laboisselle. Mines exploded near Dempierre drawing a surprise by German forces as Bavarian pioneers worked nearby. Villages Bailly and Tracy Leval faced bombardment while our heavy guns hit Noyon station. One battalion gained ground before a strong counterattack in Sollain, aided by a snowstorm that hindered artillery support.

Pacific Great Eastern Railway reports 3000 men employed

Mr. J. W. Stewart, president, says the company is employing 3,000 men now and grading progresses well. He toured the P. G. 2 line and noted signs of settlement in districts it serves are more encouraging than ever.

Local volunteers rush to join third contingent for overseas service

The Sixty-Ninth Regiment fills rapidly as Major McMullin and Capt McMordie oversee enlistments at the Exhibition Buildings. About eighty men from the local regiment offered for overseas service, including Alderman Maitland and Hubert Ward, with 40 from A Company and others from B Company signing up after medical clearance.

Extension of Time for Taking Herring Bait in Reserve District
