Christmas Day Mail Distribution Hours Announced

The post office opens for general and registered mail from 9 to 10 in the forenoon on Christmas Day. Southbound mail arriving the previous night will be ready for distribution during that window.

Turkey prices fall in Prince Rupert amid GTP impact

Fresh Edmonton district turkeys arrive by fast freight to Prince Rupert lowering local prices. Retailers Frizzell's and P Burns' offer turkeys at 30 cents a pound with other poultry priced lower than Vancouver. Local and eastern stores stock ducks geese and boiling fowls. squabs and pigeons priced accordingly. Orders from retailers down versus last year as trade expectations rise.

Floods and rain from Constantinople to Washington delayed word of Turkish losses. The battleship Messu dieh is known to have been lost with three men dead. Rail traffic is crippled and cattle losses are heavy as submarines threaten the Dardanelles and spies are reported in the country.

A social evening by the Irish Fusiliers at the Em press Theatre featured officers non commissioned officers and men presenting songs violin solos gymnastics recitations sparring displays and refreshments. Lieut Dolling chaired the event and Rev Canon Rix and Capt W B Clayton spoke in thanks amid applause.

Man Found Dead North of Town on Fort George Road

A frozen body identified as Neil McCoy a railway sub contractor was found on the Fort George road about seventeen miles north of town last Wednesday night by stage driver C Stephenson. Constable Richards collected the body and brought it to Quesnel arriving Thursday night as reported by the Cariboo Observer. Continued on Page Three.

Port Simpson Indians Open New Gym For Mounted Infantry

Jack Allen plans to depart Saturday with Port Simpson Indians for an eastern mounted infantry unit. The open day showcased a gym fitted with apparatus for physical exercise as the corps reorganizes for service in South Africa. He will go to Winnipeg then proceed east, leaving soon.

Christmas Tree Gift Drive At Methodist School

The Methodist Church Sunday School held a festive event last night featuring a Mr. Rasselem and a City Christmas Tree. Presents were distributed to teachers and pupils while the council considers enabling second hand business. The Harmony committee will report on the proposals. The Prince Rupe united with the Wanderers Club, but the move was rejected amid Christmas displays and Wallace’s decorations.
