Six sticks of dynamite with caps and fuse were found under the Southern Pacific bridge over Aljambra Creek in Oakland. It is linked to enemies of the Allies and to enforcing neutrality in wartime.
London December 11 The enlistment drive under Lord Derby extends past the deadline as crowds overwhelm offices across the kingdom. The War Office extends the period to midnight Sunday with possible extension to Wednesday. The system relies on moral suasion with looming compulsory measures for those not volunteering.
Charles Hamid was found guilty in a sedition case after a resumed trial in the Assize Court. He will receive sentence on Monday before Mr. Justice Macdonald. The verdict follows a previous mistrial due to jury disagreement.
Victoria reports Hon Dr Young the final witness in the Pacific Coast Coal case recounts meeting Arbuthnot in 1883, a 1906 promise of a share for friendship, and a 1911 delivery of $105,000 in bonds. He returned the bonds and asked Arbuthnot to act as trustee as Justice Clement’s decision looms.

The Hague reports the Netherlands government will not offer encouragement recognition or support to Henry Ford Peace party. If its activities become embarrassing they will transfer headquarters abroad. The party on the steamship Oscar II is discredited in the United States and unwelcome in Europe. Mr Justice Macdonald praised jurors at the Assizes noting there were no absences.
The spruce lumber industry rapidly grows with high demand from aircraft production and strong export interest in clear spruce. Mills on Graham Island and at Port Clements Masset Port Clements Sewall plan full operations this winter, with prices at 30 to 35 dollars per thousand. Local furniture promotions accompany the report.
