Representations Sought On Fishing Licenses Coastal Industry Action

A city hall meeting of the Board of Trade and city council discussed fisheries issues for the coast. A joint committee will work with federal officials to influence roving herring licenses, streams access, license numbers, and cannery control to aid independent fishermen.

London reports Monastir evacuated. Serbian troops delayed the enemy until civilians moved to safety. Bulgarians failed to crush the Serbians who re organize their forces. Serbian troops in Albania and Montenegro total about 0,000.

Grouse Mountain Mines Show Early Copper Riches

Reports from Grouse Mountain in the Bulkley Valley indicate five claims bonded by R P Trimble and partners. The shaft has reached thirty feet with solid ore and copper values that may rise with depth. Plans call for continuing to the 100 foot level and large scale development after the holidays.

Airship raids and submarine sinkings off Belgium

A British report describes Flight sub-Lieut Viney and a French officer dropping a bomb on a German submarine off the Belgian coast. The submarine sank after its back was broken. Lieut Ferrand and an air mechanic shot down a German seaplane off Ostend. British airmen raided positions along the Belgian coast with numerous encounters on Sunday.

Terrific Explosion at Du Pont Powder Works Kills Thirty Seven

In Wilmington Delaware a massive blast at the Du Pont Powder Company Upper Hagley Yard killed thirty seven workers and fatally injured seven. The cause is unknown and a thorough investigation is under way. Four tons of black powder ignited in the packing house, blasting workers to pieces and leaving few identifiable remains. The plant’s growth has transformed the nearby town from farm land to a modern settlement.

Mr. J H Hetherington formerly of Hazelton and now Smithers Hotel Bulkley office manager wed Miss Hethel Gray daughter of Mr and Mrs J S Gray of Smithers. The bride formerly lived in Prince Rupert and is sister of Alex Gray now in this city.

In St Andrew's Hall last night the St Andrew's Society hosted a grand masquerade ball. Maskers danced past 11 after prizes awarded for best costume to Mrs H Brown and best comic outfit to H Astoria.

Post office urges mail to depart on Thursday train to reach the old country by Christmas. Letters must be mailed by Wednesday night to ensure timely delivery, according to postal authorities.
