London reports from General French note no combat on the British front since August 18 with only mining activity. Allied air forces claim successes including shooting down enemy planes on August 18 and 25, and an artillery raid set a railway train at Langemarck station ablaze near Ypres.
City council discuss a possible option of paying 95 for debentures to cover Seal Cove planking and street replanking. A Toronto firm holds a ten day option. tenders from locals to accept debentures were to be opened, but were laid over until the option outcome is known.
Dismissed application to block appeal in the Alvie O Neill case. Fred Peters K C raised a preliminary objection arguing the stipendiary magistrate lacked power to fix bail. The judge ruled against the objection and the appeal proceeds to trial.
Coastal canneries end their season with strong packs in most plants. Sockeye salmon led the season with a steady run in the Skeena and the Naas, producing excellent packs overall.
Stipendiary Magistrate J. H. McMullin committed three Japanese men from Port Esington for trial on murder charges. The suspects Ohara Nagano and Kameda will appear at the Assize Court.
