A widely circulated verse from 1916 claims to reveal when the war will end. The lines reference an aunt’s charwoman’s sister’s son and a Downing Street housemaid, suggesting insider knowledge. The text prompted discussion about its authenticity and wartime morale.
The Florence is now the only vessel of that kind on Skeena. A few years ago the Skeena River held a fine fleet of small steamers for the trade, but only the Flo remains home port at Skeeps. The Nora of North Pacific Cannery has left the river for good. Edith of Oceanic Cannery uses it as summer headquarters but goes south each winter.

The Surf Inlet Power Company, Limited filed on May 18 1916 plans and specifications for diverting water from Cougar Lake at Surf Inlet Prin ce Royal Island. Duplicates are available for inspection at the Water Comptroller in Victoria and the Water Recorder in Prince Rupert. The application was filed February 24, 1916.

Action under section 85 must be commenced before issue. Also notice James McNulty of Prince Rupert outlining a land survey starting one mile south of C S 9971.
The City of Prince Rupert invites tenders by August 18 for a set of apparatus including a 0.7 hp boiler and feed water heater, an injector, a fire pump with sea fittings, and related equipment.
