Campaign Crew Forms for Hon. William Manson Support

A large Railwaymen Hall gathering organized a central campaign committee for Hon. William Manson’s Liberal bid. W. E. Fisher was named chairman and J. Doig secretary, with a slate of members, to coordinate meetings and subcommittees. Manson criticized opposition tactics and urged voters to back the Conservative provincial government.

Former Premier J. H. Turner Dies in Victoria

Victoria reports the death of Hon. J. H. Turner former Premier and longtime Agent General in London. Turner served briefly as premier and recently resigned his post as Agent General. Miss Phillis Jenns departed south yesterday to attend Normal School.

Timber Scaled For June In British Columbia

June timber returns from the Department of Lands show total sawlogs of 120,023,869 ft. board, plus 375,905 lb ft of poles and piles and 28,840 cords of ties bolts and related items. District totals include Vancouver 78,439,270 ft and Nelson 4,288,647 ft. Timber sales for June estimate revenue at 10,206 dollars.

Russians Advance Across Front As War Spreads

Petrograd reports Von Bothmer’s army evacuated the front along the Stripa River with no resistance while Austrians attempt to break free from a Russian trap. The Russian drive in Galicia continues, with forces reaching Mariampol near Halich and the Tarnopol to Buczacz region now under Russian control.

Germans Surrender Along the Somme to British Force
