British Forces Advance On Right Bank Tigris In Mesopotamia

James Thomson of the Hudson's Bay Company arrived from the east last night to meet C. H. French, the Victoria representative. Thomson, former Victoria agent, is well known to many here, with headquarters in Winnipeg.

Copper Carload Transferred From Anyox For Quick Shipment

The steamer Prince Rutgert brought a carload of blister copper from Anyox for shipment to the refinery in the east. It was transferred to a car last evening and will go out this morning, saving time in delivery.

Record Price Paid for Fox Halibut Marks Market Scarcity

A record price for halibut was paid here yesterday as two schooners, the Alvilda with 10 000 and the Fram with 13 000 pounds, sold for nine and three quarters cents a pound to the Canadian Fish and Cold Storage. H. C. Roberts of the San Juan Company was a close second. Scarcity of fish keeps prices high while some boats go out below. Mayor McCaffery plans to depart for New York to push bond sales and complete the sale of city bonds with Spitzer, Rorick & Company assisting. The City Council and staff are heavily involved in drafting bylaws and securing bond deliveries. Continued on page three.

Farewell for S O Erich Before 102nd Battalion Duty

S O Erich, farewelled at the Wanderers Club by G T P staff and friends, departs this morning for overseas service with the 102nd Battalion. He will spend a short holiday in the south before joining Comox unit. a purse of money was presented in appreciation.

Canadians Arrive in England With Large Contingent

The 64 73 56 62 538 74 and 75th Battalions of Canadian troops along with No 8 Field Ambulance, Laval University General Hospital drafts, and heavy field artillery units have arrived in England aboard the Adriatic Baltic and Empress of Britain. The total contingent numbers 8 597 officers and men.

Electric Light On The Farms Of Ontario

The Ontario Hydro Electric Power Commission reports seventh annual findings on farm lighting. Electric light improves home and out-building appeal, reduces fire risk by replacing coal oil lamps, and helps retain youth on farms. Barns now using conduit wiring for safety. open wiring costs $1.25–$1.75 per outlet, concealed wiring $1.50–$2.25 per outlet, with costs varying by district.
