Readers express appreciation for reminders and friendly letters tied to subscription renewals. Ki Le Robinson of Michigan thanks for patience as he renews with $3, noting home news keeps him connected. Mrs George Perry of Utah also sends a $3 check and says they enjoy The Citizen.
Mack Kennington spoke at the Lions Club on Wednesday evening sharing his two year missionary experience in the eastern states around New York. Musical numbers were provided by Carl Bostrom with accordion solos, as guests Wilber Snelsen Mark Hammond and Ira Kennington attended under directors Ralph Millar Lee Bergquist and Reed Magleby.
The Telephone Girls club held a Wednesday evening social at Mrs Dorothy Handy's home. Honored guests Shirley Hansen and Helen Bennett, former Preston operators now transferred to Ogden, attended along with eleven guests. Indoor games, prizes, and a neatly arranged lunch were served.
The display features buffet style setup with tables centered by bouquets of red rosebuds and a mix of asters and zinnias spread throughout the home.
Third place at the fair went to Pasture Pals led by Leonard Lund with Arlo Howell Leon Howell and Colleen Alder as high scorer in the first year. First place earned by William Crane Jr and Glen Jepsen with second to Heraldine Balls. In second year and over, Joseph Ward Alvin Carver and Billy Carver earned third.
Births listed include Forsgren Preston Sept 15 a boy. Seamons Preston Sept 19 a girl. Hobbs Weston Sept 19 a girl. Christensen Preston Sept 19 a boy. Archibald Dayton Sept 22 a boy. Mrs Swensen and daughter Lola Packard Ogden travel to Los Angeles for an extended trip visiting friends and relatives.
James Hy Godwin appeared before Probate Judge W Paul Merrill in Coeur d Alene on charges of issuing fraudulent checks. He received a 90 day suspended sentence plus court costs, contingent on reimbursing the Preston merchant. Godwin waived extradition and was turned over to Utah officers for similar charges there.
The board of education discussed bus and driver regulations under the 1947 transportation act. Officials urged cooperation and compliance with existing rules, noting that state authorities will not harshly crack down but expect drivers and districts to "get in line" promptly.
Allen Jeffreys in charge of state driver training urged offering high school courses with 19 schools already doing so. George E Vaughn state safety director discussed school bus safety and the need for drivers to model traffic rules. A discussion noted motorists often ignore stopped buses even with the arm extended, and listed county drivers in attendance including Baker Glen dale Winger Winder Gailey Fairview Porter Franklin Larsen R Daval etc.
