War Effort Aided By Canning Plant At Preston
Franklin canning center processed over 32000 cans of fruit and vegetables as Norval Wardle reported to Preston Rotary. Peas beans corn apricots carrots peaches and tomatoes were common products. School lunch programs in Dayton Clifton Weston Franklin Whitney Glendale East Side Riverdale and Preston received full quotas with 4000 cans produced in Preston by the local committee. Beet Harvest To Start In County October 4
Plans for harvesting Franklin County's beet crop are set with Jed Lewis noting the plant will begin operations Monday October 4 weather permitting. Fourteen receiving stations will be manned as harvesting runs three weeks. Slicing at the factory will begin October 6 with about 300 employees needed for at least 60 days.

Recall Petition Drive Seeks Governor Recall in Franklin County
Eighty petitions bearing 80 names of Franklin County electors were filed with County Auditor Cleo Swenson by Matt Larson chairing the recall effort. To meet the required one tenth vote, 350 signatures were needed locally, with potential to influence statewide action if Ada and Canyon counties contribute about 15 000 signatures. The local committee continues collecting signatures and will file the total with the county recorder for public inspection.
