Ghost Town of General Custer Mill Idaho Mining Legacy
In central Idaho the General Custer mill once dominated the valley for decades until 1941 snow collapse. The ghost town along Yankee Fork near Salmon River remains as a monument to a booming mining era. The town named for General George A Custer sits near a hillside cemetery where weathered markers and stone piles mark enduring graves.

Tragic love trio buried on hill above Custer cemetery
Sun and rain obscure dates reveal Lucy King and her English husband linked to a fatal trio in Custer. The lover and husband shot Lucy and then himself, leaving townsfolk outraged. As a result they were buried on the hill with pine markers, separate from the cemetery proper. The mill collapse ends a chapter in the west’s history.
