Preston drug party raid nets 23 arrests in county history

A Preston residence raid last Friday night led to 23 arrests with more expected. The undercover operation cost just over $2,000 and involved Utahns and Idaho residents amid a major drug traffic crackdown. Offenders faced charges of delivery of a controlled substance and frequenting places where drugs are used, with juvenile arrests and potential sentences up to five years for pushers.

Protest meeting planned Friday night at courthouse

A meeting is announced for Friday at 8 p.m. in the courthouse conference room to organize Franklin County in protest of the Idaho Public Utilities Commission order affecting Utah Power and Light Co. Kenneth S. Porter of Preston notes the 8.15 percent overall rate hike will raise about $3.4 million, and the elimination of the all-electric residential rate will add roughly $2.5 million in revenue for the Salt Lake City firm.

Preston North Stake Conference This Weekend

Preston North Stake announces its conference at the Preston North Stake Center this Saturday and Sunday. A Priesthood meeting is set for Saturday at 7 30 p.m. and Sunday at 8 30 a.m. Speaker will be President Lyle Cooley of the Salt Lake Mission, with President Robert Geddes presiding at 10 a.m. Junior Sunday School will be held in the Third-Seventh Ward building due to space limits. Parents should wait until 9 20 a.m. to bring children for supervision.

County Commission to Air Legion Building Usage Dispute

Franklin County commissioners set a special meeting for October 19 at 8 p.m. to air complaints about use of the American Legion Building in Preston by the Legion Senior Citizens and World War One veterans. The board also signed a law enforcement agreement with Preston City and a juvenile probation contract, and discussed funding, road work, a county curfew ordinance, and speed limit changes.

Otter to Meet County GOP in Preston Tonight

Gubernatorial candidate Butch Otter will speak at 8 p.m. in Preston with the County Republican Committee chair Lynn Fackrell. The event in the ASC meeting room is open to the public for questions and interaction.

Six file for council and three for Preston mayor as of 5 p.m. Tuesday. Senior Citizens Dinner and Dance at American Legion Hall

The Senior Citizen dinner will be held Saturday at the American Legion Hall with serving starting at noon and an 8 p.m. dance at the same venue for local seniors. No flu shots will be given. those desiring flu shots should contact their own physician and the event lists a fee if applicable.
