Beet Processing Season Underway In Cache Valley
Sugar beet harvesting begins under favorable weather in Cache Valley and Weber County as DelMonte’s Franklin plant prepares to process up to 20,000 more tons than 1967. All valley receiving stations load beets directly to rail cars for factory delivery with stockpiling at Smithfield Whitney and Dayton stations. The DelMonte run is expected to end around December 10, extending 15 days beyond last year, with 7500 acres harvested this fall vs 6000 in 1967. Ardeth Farrell notes cabbage output similar to last year despite slightly less acreage.
