Preston city studies water future with Bergquist options

City consultants Forsgren and Perkins presented a water supply feasibility study to the City Council and Planning Board. The plan outlines five alternatives including a new 18 inch line to Bergquist Springs a possible dam and pumping facility and distribution upgrades. It recommends securing extra water from Bergquist Spring via trade agreements and updating storage to meet growth. The study notes current storage at 179 million gallons with a target 3.5 million gallon storage if population lags behind goals and projects 1 percent annual growth to 4800 by 2000. It urges replacing old pipelines and notes adequate current distribution but future upgrades. The council also discussed a federal funds outlook from Sen Frank Church and approved sidewalk removal and additional pipe delivery while a furniture license request was tabled for discrepancies.
