Fireman Frank to stage Preston show as part of pre Christmas events

Fireman Frank also known as Ron Ross will host a two hour Preston show Saturday featuring magical tricks and children activities starting 1 p.m. Santa Claus will hand out candy after the show. Friday events include five cent hot dogs, carol singers on the streets and store window judging.

A Franklin County survey shows five fatal accidents in the year to January 1 1966, with motor vehicles responsible for one death. The fatality rate runs 64 per 100 000, below Mountain States and Idaho totals, while nationwide injuries incur about 11 million nonfatal cases and $20 billion in costs yearly.

Films Slated For CVBA Meet In Franklin County

The Franklin county unit of the Cache Valley Breeders association will hold four meeting on December 7 at 1 p.m. in the Franklin county courthouse. Elmo Packer will show films on his recent trip to South America. According to Merlin Gilbert all members should be present.

Corn Silage School In Franklin County To Open

The first corn silage school in Franklin County will be held December 5 at 10 a.m. in the Preston Elks Lodge. The Franklin County Dairy Herd Improvement Association will direct the program led by Horace Haworth. The one day event will cover corn silage varieties suited to the area seed bed prep and other production phases.

Four Burglaries Reported in Franklin County Last Weekend

Police note at least four burglaries occurred in Franklin county over the weekend. Knudson Packing Co was entered twice with small change and Jerke strips taken the first time and hams stolen the second. Citizen Publishing Co. lost about 140 dollars and Diamond Stud in Franklin reported beer, sunglasses, dried beef and pepperoni missing. Entrance varied by location with doors and a window used. Tires also reported stolen in recent weeks.

Preston native Eames named head of accident investigations programs

Wendell G. Eames of Preston Idaho and a 1942 University of Idaho graduate is appointed Chief of the Division of Accident Investigations Programs at the U S National Highway Safety Bureau. A 20 year FBI veteran he helped establish the National Driver Register Service and earned the Department of Commerce Meritorious Service Silver Medal.

Translator To Go Off In North Cache Valley

The television translator serving North Cache Valley will be turned off today. operated by the Better TV Corporation a non profit organization. FCC regulations require that the corporation maintain funds to operate for the coming year. About half of the needed money has been received. The corporation asks $15 from each home using the UHF facilities.

The quarterly Franklin stake conference will be held Saturday and Sunday with emphasis on genealogy and children's programs. Meetings are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the stake center with stake president W Dean Palmer presiding.

No Parking Enforced At Milo's Store After Hours

Balladiers Plan Local Benefit Concert in Preston

The Balladiers, Utah State University’s traveling singing group, will perform a benefit concert in the Preston high school auditorium on December 9. Proceeds go to the Preston Third Ward building fund, with two Preston students among the group’s members, Kaye Anderson and Douglas Brenchiey.

Rotary Christmas program marks 35th year

The Rotary club continues its annual Christmas musical with 65 mixed voices led by Mrs Fred Osterloh and William Ward as president. The 8 p.m. December 20 program, in the Franklin stake house, invites public attendance with about 700 invitations mailed.

Tom Heath Dies In Boise at 73

Tom Heath longtime Idaho Republican leader and former seven term state senator died Saturday in Boise after a long illness. Born January 22 1894 in England he built a career in the sugar beet industry and directed the Franklin County Sugar Co. in Preston for 39 years. He served as Idaho Senate member in multiple terms and led the chamber as president pro tem in 1938 and as minority leader in 1957. He is survived by three Boise daughters a Preston brother and a Michigan sister. Services were held at St Michael’s Cathedral with burial at Mortis Cemetery.

Preston Elks challenge Preston Lions in charity basketball game

The Elks challenged the Preston Lions club to a charity basketball game with the loser paying 50 to Christmas fund. The game is set at Preston High School gymnasium on December 9 at 7 30 p.m. Proceeds go to the Elks Christmas charity fund along with the $50 from the loser.

UP&L Offers Free Christmas Lighting for Yale Areas

Burton C. Martin UP&L Preston division manager says free electricity will power holiday decorations on city streets and parks in communities served directly by the firm's lines. The utility will also run service wires to connect installed lights. Last year UP&L provided over 400 000 kilowatt hours to illuminate about 70 000 bulbs in 146 cities and towns including northern Cache Valley and southeastern Idaho.

Two Cars Collide On School Grounds

A two car accident occurred Friday on the Grace school grounds. Steve Ashbaker drove a Mustang 65 and Patsy Turner drove a Rambler 66 with Turner as passenger. William Mickelson, in the Ashbaker car, was injured and taken to a local doctor.

Five new merce directors elected this week

Five new directors are elected this week with the president and vice president to be named next month. The annual installation occurs at the January banquet.
