Local contests draw tepid interest ahead of county election
Voters face three clear races in the county while many state and federal contests fail to excite voters. The district judge race pairs Yell W. Smith against Francis J. Rasmussen of Soda Springs after Rasmussen’s appointment to the 13th judicial district. The county Republican primary features J. Wlifford Forsgren versus incumbent Thomas Heath for state senator, Heath bringing years of representation for this county. Other races see Albert E. Moser, long-time Dayton commissioner, seeking renomination, with general state tickets sparking limited local attention as Republicans may nominate Jack Hawley to challenge Sen. Frank Church, while George V. Hansen pressures for an upset in another race and Ralph Harding faces several challengers for the congressional seat.
