Lt Joe Jensen Killed In Twin-Plane Ocean Crash
Lt Joe Keith Jensen Marine fighter pilot and son of Mr and Mrs Woodrow Jensen of Taft California was killed when a four engine B 29 bomber and a Marine Corsair collided over the ocean near Catalina Island California. Eight survivors were rescued by USS Toledo and a coast guard cutter. Jensen’s body was seen after the collision and will be brought to Preston for funeral services Monday.

Yvonne Barfus, a junior and daughter of Mr and Mrs George Barfus, won the 1952 Petterborg cup vocal contest held Thursday at Preston High School auditorium. Sixteen singers competed. Lt Arnold W. Nelson, son of Clifton residents, moves from SCR-584 teaching to section T-33 at the army radar school Fort Bliss Texas. The T-33 system is a modern anti aircraft fire control setup with two radar sets, a plotting board and computer in one van. Nelson, a Treasure Island Navy electronic school graduate, joined the Fort Bliss staff upon arrival December 1951 and taught SCR-584 until April 15.

Preston trackmen placed third in the fifth district meet at Pocatello Saturday, scoring 21 1/3 points and losing the team title to the Bannocks who led with 64. Allen Martin shared first in high jump at five feet six inches. Other notable Preston placings included Davis in 100 yard dash, Bergquist in 440 yard dash, Benson in 880, Farnes in 180 yard low hurdles, Davis in broad jump, Cutler in high jump, and both Farnes and Moser in pole vault with other relay placements.

Larry Rice son of Mr and Mrs Quince Rice of Clifton and husband of Clarice Hendricks of Preston was accidentally shot in the hip during maneuvers with his army unit in Panama. Runoff Water Into Bear River Nears Peak
J. E. Cushman of the Idaho State Chamber of Commerce and Utah Power and Light Preston division manager told the Preston Rotary Club runoff waters in the Bear River drainage are reaching peak proportions. He noted Cutler reservoir received over 6500 second feet on May 8 with major inflows from Cub Little Bear Logan Deep and Franklin creeks. Bear Lake storage at Stewart dam slows downstream flow with about 3100 second feet stored since April 23 and virtually all flows above Bear Lake diverted into Bear Lake for storage mitigating floods downstream.
