A Kiwanis and civic group talk centers on litter cleanup costs reaching one billion dollars annually. Ralph Ermatinger of the U S Brewers Association describes films on vandalism and beautification and promotes Keep America Beautiful three pronged program to educate, standardize laws and enforce cleanup nationwide.
Willis Burton, former Pres ton man, named second counselor in the Idaho Stake presidency Sunday. He had been serving as the second counselor in the Soda Springs Fourth ward bishop ric. Burton was serving as first counselor in the Oneida Stake presidency when he moved to Soda Springs in 1966. He is the associate manager of the Farm Bureau insurance in Soda Springs.
The Community Development Committee will meet March 25 at 10 30 a m in the Franklin County Court House court room. Acting chairman Webster C Maughan of the bank formed organization says the meeting is open to the public and any interested person may attend. The committee has held two prior meetings to discuss county improvement ideas.
A Salt Lake City committee approves a $350000 project for a Preston Seventh ward chapel next to the present Third ward site. Groundbreaking is set for May 15 with a year to complete. The project mirrors the Providence First ward chapel and includes 290 seats in the chapel plus a 60 seat cultural hall.
James C. Taylor, a former Preston resident, was elected vice president of Utah Power and Light by the board. He will serve as vice president of commercial operations overseeing Utah, Idaho, Colorado and Wyoming divisions. His duties include construction, operation and maintenance of distribution facilities, sales and marketing, division accounting, and rate design. E Allen Hunter, UP&L president, cited customer contact as key in the new role. Taylor has been the company's commercial manager.
Western Regional Conference and school for county officers held in Phoenix Arizona was represented by Mrs Stanton Hawkes county women chairman Charles B Schuman president and Roger Fleming executive secretary of AFBF were principal speakers State President Allan Grant of California Farm Bureau warned that 1969 could be a crucial year for farmers because if the United Farmers Organizing Committee of the AFL CIO is successful in their planned grape and apple boycott they will go on to boycott everything.
A reception for all Master M-Men Golden Gleaners and Honorary members and their partners will be held March 29 in the Oneida Stake chapel from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Gold and Green Ball begins at 8:30 p.m. Max Norton and fellow leaders invite attendance from all within or outside the stake.
Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, county campaign chair, announced Red Cross area heads for the annual drive. Ward chairmen include Mrs. Ra Sparrow in First Ward, Mrs. M. Paul Thomas in Second Ward, Mrs. Loyd Lewis in Third Ward, Mrs. V. Keith Nielsen in Fourth Ward, Mrs. Arlando Larsen in Fifth Ward, Vincent Owen in Seventh Ward, Andrew Shumway in Eighth Ward, and others across Banida Dayton Fairview Mink Creek Clifton Clifton Riverdale Treasureton Weston Whitney and Winder.
Edwin Niehaus of Amalgamated Sugar told the Franklin County Beet Growers association the Lewiston factory will stay open this fall. He urged farmers to plant beets and support upgrades to boost profits as beet acreage declines.
The Eastside school board called for bids on a transit type passenger bus after Roy Ware reported operating costs. Safety and ease of operation were cited as priorities. The board delayed administrator hiring to meet with Superintendent Ward and Dr Bowler.
The last of ten Cache Valley meetings for sugar beet producers was held with Amalgamated Sugar field men in attendance. Discussions covered beet tops as silage for higher milk, soil moisture control, herbicides, precision farming, harvest operations, and cost reductions through timely mechanical practices.
Two sessions are planned for the Oneida Stake quarterly conference with Elder Howard W. E. expected to speak, details incomplete due to damaged text.
Peggy Bél nap earned a Superior in Prose Manuscript while Drama dialogue earned high marks for Evans Annati and Beverly Clayson in Retold Story. Debbie At received additional excellent ratings, highlighting strong performances and writing across categories.
