High Altitude Trees Suggested by Forester

Vernon Ravenscroft University of Idaho extension forester says elevation does not prevent good tree growth. Siberian pea, golden willow, yellow pine, lodgepole pine suit high elevations while blue spruce and Rocky Mountain juniper make dense evergreens. Locust grows to 3000–4000 feet, mountain ash and birch tolerate 4000–5500 feet. No special cultural practices needed beyond good seed bed prep and cultivation.
