More Spending Will Require Tax Raise in Preston
At the Preston City Council meeting Mayor Lyle Shipley warned that increased spending would necessitate tax hikes. A three-year expenditure graph showed capital outlay 34 percent, streets 37 percent, salaries 26 percent, and general fund 36 percent. No action was taken on tax plans. other items included relocating a log school house, garbage hauling, a federal highway grant, recreation park upkeep, and a painters business license approval.

Preston Girl Improves After Overdose
A 16 year old Preston girl was reported in good condition at Franklin County Hospital after an overdose of drugs. Dr Boyd Hale said she was treated by Franklin County ambulance personnel at about 5 30 p m and was in critical condition on arrival. He noted alcohol was involved and that investigators had not determined what else was mixed with it.
