Eastside parents invited to Friday night district meeting

A special Friday night meeting for Eastside School District patrons and parents will be held in Preston High School auditorium at 8 oclock. Organized by concerned parents the goal is to form sub committees to work with students across all grade levels and with school staff.

Weeklong Franklin County Agriculture Week Highlighted by Chamber

Preston Area Chamber of Commerce proclaims June 6 to 11 as Agriculture Week in Franklin County. Don Carter and Jean Smith of Riverdale will be honored. A Dutch oven dinner Friday June 10 at the Lions Shelter starts a two hour farm tour directed by DeVere e Tovey, concluding at 3 pm.

Preston High School band seeks lost uniforms

Kent Poulson, director, asked parents of former band members to search their closets for missing uniforms. He noted several uniforms purchased in recent years are unaccounted for.

Purser Dominates Idaho National Guard Rifle Meet

Purser, a Preston carpenter and Idaho National Guard rifle team member, won open class at the Idaho Falls firearms meet. He captured top honors in combat M-16 and precision M-14 and excelled in the dog match. The Preston Unit claimed six of 14 trophies with shooters like Larry Biggs Keith Corbridge and Ross Lyon placing in novice and related events.

West Side Plans June 14 Election For Plant Fund

West Side School District sets a June 14 election from 4 to 9 pm at West Side High School library to seek a three mill plant facilities levy to raise about 15 free thousand dollars for a bus and furnace work after a five mill failed to pass. The board also reaffirmed a 45 percent salary hike for teachers with a three percent increment increase.

Preston Chamber Announces June Crazy Days and Father's Day Drawings

The Preston Chamber of Commerce announced Crazy Days for June 17 plus Father’s Day drawing events. Merchants will issue tickets for a June 18 downtown drawing with $5 gift certificates and a $100 grand prize in certificates. The event includes a town sale and best dressed employee contest with an all expense paid trip to Salt Lake City.

Guild To Forego Summer Production

The Northern Cache Valley Theatre Guild will not present a show this summer. A special summer 1978 production is planned in the outdoor area behind Preston High School. Spokesman Carl Hoffmann invites new members to join by contacting Mrs Venna Oliversen at 852 1330. The Senior Citizen dinner is set for Saturday at noon in the American Legion Hall and invites all local seniors.

Sheriff Reports Quiet Memorial Weekend in Franklin County

Sheriff Arlando Larsen said the Memorial weekend was quiet with only minor accidents. Deputies broke up a beer party in Cleveland area and confiscated several kegs from juveniles, but no arrests were made of Caribou County students. The department was ready for graduation night parties but nothing serious occurred.
