Idaho Department of Highways reports progress on grading and fencing south of Rocky Canyon on the Grace Preston highway. LeGrande Johnson Construction of Logan handles about 80 workers with finish targets in July and September 1 1971 for prime and seal coat. Other projects include Soda Springs to Georgetown reconditioning and culvert work, Neilsen and Miller and Western Construction on I 16, plus US 30N seal coat between Lava and Topaz with flagger guidance for safety. Weather has slowed progress but current conditions are improving.

Lee Bengquist, Franklin County Board chair, says the Fair Board unanimously voted July 15 to include horse pulling as a special event on Saturday evening August 21 at Preston Rodeo Arena. Three weight classes will run with teams weighed in earlier that day at Franklin County Grain Growers. organizers include Theo Bell and Doug Wright.

Two scouts and a scoutmaster will depart Friday with eight other Cache Valley boys to join Lake Bonneville Council in Ogden for a three week World Scout Jamboree in Japan. From Franklin county comes David Beckstead ElRay Bingham and Carl Bingham while North Cache Valley sends Neil Rawlins Max Spackman Ted Andrews Randy Hansen and Lynn Eskelson. Bingham of Troop 39 Weston ward has 15 years in scouting and served as Explorer advisor.

The annual 4 H Shodeo Queen contest at Preston Rodeo Arena begins with a riding clinic at 7 pm Thursday July 22.
