Dark mirrors Frisch as Giants captain to Cardinals star
The article recalls Frankie Frisch leaving the Polo Grounds for St Louis and parallels Alvin Dark the Giants captain now with the Cardinals. Dark, 33, faced questions about range but compensates with smart hitting and baserunning as Pie Traynor and Pee Wee Reese praise his aggressive, crafty style. Dark hails from Comanche Oklahoma, grew up in Lake Charles Louisiana, and rose through LSU before joining pro ball with the Braves and Giants before a 1949 trade. In his first seven Cardinals games he hit .516.
