Franklin county economic group aims to boost local economy

A county task force of merchants bankers and civic leaders met Tuesday to plan ways to stimulate Franklin County economy. The group discussed the hospital and water line projects along with promoting home loyalty to local businesses and products.

Interstate 15 North promotion group formed in Soda Springs

A committee to promote an Interstate 15 North link from McCammon to Little America through Soda Springs, Montpelier, and Fish Creek divide was formed in Soda Springs. Co chairmen include Mayor Richard Fagnant of Kemmerer Wyoming and C A Smith former La va mayor.

Tractor Auto Collision Records First 1969 County Crash

Myrl L Bodily, 70, of Preston, was cited for failure to yield after pulling a tractor onto the road to open a gate and turning back into traffic. Roland B Olsson, 39, of Salt Lake City, struck the tractor causing about 175 dollars damage to both vehicles with no injuries.

Franklin County General Memorial Hospital Board Cut

The hospital board shrank from nine to five members with two former members staying on. Franklin chairman Earl Shumway continues along with Clyde Call and Clifton Appointed new members Leness Keller Preston Weldon McGregor Thatcher and Robert Acock Preston. Terms expired for Henry Rawlings Mrs Glen Gamble Mrs Frank Gilbert Millen Mendenhall Fred Anderson Frank Foss and H R Bingham. The board will delay calls for bids on the new hospital until after September 1 when federal funds may be available.

Preston chamber members were asked to submit committee preferences this week. President Brrt Martin urged members to contact him or vice president Paul Johnson. Appointments will be announced soon.

Blocks Name New Manager At Preston Store

Roger E Woolley was named manager of the Blocks store in Preston on Monday. He succeeds Bart Hungate who moved to the Pocatello office. Woolley, a Preston native, has worked for Blocks since 1963 and previously served at the Blackfoot store.

Retail Sales Jump in Franklin County in Four-Year Span

Retail stores in Franklin County posted a 22.3 percent sales rise over the four-year period ending 1968, increasing from 10.59 million to 12.97 million dollars. The gain reflects price increases and strong local consumer spending amid hopes for ongoing growth into 1969.

Franklin County Hosts Dairy Course

Franklin county dairymen are invited to a two day dairy short course and tour on February 10 and 11 at the Preston Elks Lodge. Sponsored by the Franklin County Dairy Herd Improvement Association and University of Idaho Extension Service, the program features Virgil Kennedy on hay and silo types and Dr. Garth Sasser on milk fever and ketosis.
