The piece argues American farming grew more productive from 1939 to 1959, citing 32 percent more corn on 17 percent less land, wheat yields rising from 740 to 940 million bushels, and 45 percent less cotton acreage while output remains high. It credits fertilizer use, pest control, better stock, and efficiency for national strength, noting soil wealth valued at $125.1 billion on May 1, 1959.
