Steve Thomas Resigns From Preston Hospital Post

Franklin County Memorial Hospital administrator Steve Thomas announced his resignation to the hospital board. He will leave Preston for the Brim firm and will assume administration of Barrett Hospital in Dillon Montana while also handling northwest consulting assignments.

Earl Shumway Franklin hospital board chairman and vice chairman Bob Acock praised Thomas for updating the facility and said they will evaluate resumes and interview applicants next week for the 50 bed nursing home and hospital.

County Commission reviews tentative budget for year

Franklin County officials met to discuss draft spending plans totaling about 228000. Major items include courthouse upgrades, hospital operations, road and bridge funds, fair facilities, and a proposed coyotes bounty. Taxes may rise if revenue sharing funds do not cover the rest. commissioners seek to limit tax increases.

Preston Youths Arrested After Swan Lake Burglary Attempt

Two Preston youths were arrested by Franklin County deputies after an early Sunday incident south of Preston. Tom Lower, 18, faced a driving while intoxicated charge while a 17 year old was cited for underage consumption. They were questioned by Bannock County officers related to a Swan Lake burglary attempt at the Thomas Mercantile store.

Preston Area Chamber Banquet Set for Tuesday

The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual banquet and meeting next Tuesday January 14 at the Preston North Stake Center starting at 6 30 p m. Guest speaker Charles P Berg plant manager of Bucyrus Erie Pocatello, discusses the firm expansion from Wisconsin to Idaho and its expected regional impact.

Kindergarten Starts Monday in West Side District

Kindergarten classes begin Monday in the West Side School District with Clifton and Weston elementary schools hosting sessions. Clifton area youngsters ride buses 9 to 11 30 a.m. with parents picking up, Weston area attend 1 p.m. to close of school and return home by bus or private car. Mrs LaVene Cox, teacher, notes all students need physical exams and there will be no milk or snacks served.

Weston Plan Approved by State Recreation Group

Weston Mayor Maur ice Tingey said the preliminary recreation project plan received state approval with no funding until May. The Southeast Idaho Council of Governments prepared a three year community development plan prioritizing housing, with general revenue sharing to assist families paying over 25 percent of income on rent. George R. Stanger, 30, was cited for failing to control a vehicle after a 1965 Dodge pickup left the road Jan 1, damaging a fence and ditchning 156 dollars.

Franklin County Senior Citizens Dinner and Plans for Weston's Projects

The Franklin County Senior Citizens invite their first dinner of the year on Saturday January 18 at noon in the Robinson Building County Fairgrounds. A sing along business meeting and special program will follow with new ward representatives Edith Coburn and Archie Wright. Tickets are a dollar from ward reps. The group prioritizes housing recreation and transportation with a county mini bus for 16 funded by state and federal money and maintained by the seniors program. Road repairs are planned with possible oil roads and a public meeting will seek citizen approval.
