Transient Barkdull Faces Shoplifting Charge In Logan
William Barkdull 64 of Logan appeared before Justice Dr. Milo Wheeler on shoplifting charges. A six month jail term was suspended provided he remains out of the state for a year. Barkdull was picked up in a local pool hall by Deputy Bill Dursteler after attempting to sell items from various stores. Police recovered gloves pipes fountain pens razors combs sun glasses and other merchandise from Logan stores among his possessions. Officers believe he worked between here and Logan during the summer, obtaining short term jobs at different places.

Well Known Contractor Mickelsen Dies at Dayton Home
John Mickelsen age 59, a prominent contractor and builder of the Dayton area, died suddenly at his Dayton home Monday. He served as cemetery sexton for 15 years and is survived by his wife, eight sons and daughters, four sisters, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Dayton with burial at the Dayton cemetery under Hendricks-Webb mortuary supervision.

First New Year’s Baby in Franklin County Named
The infant son of Mr and Mrs Ariend Hansen was born at Memorial hospital at 1 15 pm New Year’s Day in Franklin County. Local merchants planning gifts include Greaves Style shop Golden Rule Reliance Johnson Drug Mel’s Perscription Drug Penney’s Carlsons Furniture U and I Exchange and Co op Drug. Mr Hansen a German campaign veteran was wounded and is now farming. The first infants of the year were twins born to Mr and Mrs Doyle Johnson of Preston at Cache Valley hospital in Logan.
