January Drive Seeks Major Support for Polio Aid

Ace Beckstead announces a 1959 March of Dimes drive to expand patient aid for polio survivors to age 18 plus cover arthritis and certain birth defects. The Franklin county chapter spent $4,811 in 1958 aiding eight polio patients, while national funds reached $18.9 million for 50 000 patients.

Sugar Beet Growers Urged to File by January 16 Deadline

The ASC county committee warns sugar beet growers that January 16 is the final date to file applications for 1959 sugar beet acres. All farmers planning to grow sugar beets must submit an application to receive history credit. Farmers have a few weeks left to apply for loans or purchase agreements on most 1958 grain and related crops. The committee also notes a January 31 deadline for price support on wheat barley grain sorghum oats dry beans rye and flaxseed, extended to February 2 since January 31 falls on a Saturday.

North Cache Edges Preston Indians In Tight High School Duel

Preston High School lost to North Cache 54 46 on December 26, then beat Logan 47 44 on Monday to snap a skid. Ned Gyllenskog led North Cache with 19 while Leon Almond scored 13 for Preston. Preston meets Pocatello January 2 at Preston and then plays Logan in Logan the next night.

Bids Opened For Local Roads in Franklin County Idaho

Bids opened in December at the Idaho State Highway Dept offices for Franklin county road improvements. Apparent low bidder Fife Construction Co of Brigham City Utah bid 34884.25 for a 0.436 mile Weston Fairview Franklin road with drainage structures and a 34.5 foot concrete bridge. Idaho federal aid project No S1735(3).

First Security Awards Continue for 4-H Farm Youth

The First Security Foundation commits 24000 for 4 H program and unit awards and funds 195 scholarships totaling 10100 to Idaho colleges and universities including the University of Idaho and Brigham Young University. Mrs Luetta Heath Heath wife of Idaho Senator dies

Luetta Horner Heath 61 wife of State Sen Thomas Heath of Preston Idaho died last Friday afternoon in Preston hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage Thursday night. She was born January 6 in Port Huron Michigan and married Thomas Heath in 1915. Survivors include her husband three daughters and eight other relatives. Funeral services were held Monday at the Franklin stake house with a Boise burial planned for others unable to attend.

Beulah Rosen 36 Die in Auto-Truck Crash North of Preston

Beulah Rosen of Preston died December 26 in a crash 14 miles north of Preston when her 1956 station wagon struck a stalled cattle truck on U S Highway 91. Her husband Robert Poe and son Clair were injured. son Bobbie had minor injuries. Survived by husband and two sons, mother Gladys Rosen, and siblings. Funeral held in Franklin stake house. burial in Preston cemetery.

Local Furniture Store Prizes Winners in December Contest

Mrs Leon Nuffer of Dayton believed she would win the U and I Furniture Company December Price Is Right contest which closed December 20. Prizes valued at $123.73 were up for grabs including a two way clock and dinnerware. Nuffer’s guess was $127.53, narrowly beating Orlene LaMont at $126.31 and Connie Johnson at $115.35. Nuffer will receive all listed merchandise.
