Sheriff Arlando Larsen is scheduled to speak at a no host noon luncheon at Pop n Pin Lanes today. He will discuss the crime alert system and measures merchants can take to guard their property from burglars.
The Citizen promotes a weekend sale by area merchants tied to Washington's Birthday with 50 to 60 shops pictured. Shoppers can win $20 by identifying all merchants in the supplement. entries due Monday at 5 p.m. Merchants promise free prizes and pies, with Feston noted for easy parking and friendly clerks.
The Bear River runoff is forecast at 12 percent of normal with statewide drought severity high. Snowpack is at an all time low, January streamflow is well below normal, and reservoir carryover ranges from 73 to 131 percent. Forecasters warn of extreme 1977 irrigation shortages and urge water users to conserve and plan now.
Area chairmen mobilize a county wide campaign to raise funds for heart monitoring equipment at Franklin County Hospital. The drive aims for 14 000 with 8 337 pledged so far including major gifts from Pink Ladies and Utah Power and Light. Schools and local groups plan fundraisers as north and south county volunteers coordinate donations.
Franklin County considers a broad ordinance to curb off road vehicle activity on public and private land. The move follows farmers reports of crop loss damage and fence vandalism from four wheeler use. County attorney J D Williams would draft the measure making trespass a criminal offense.
Garbage collection will shift to Tuesday due to the holiday. City and county offices banks and most state and federal offices close. County schools observe a day off for the observance.
