Preston High School stages My Fair Lady in an all school production directed by Detmar Derricott and Carl Hoffmann. Showtimes are 8 p m tonight and Friday with available reserved and general admission tickets at the door.
The arraignment for Dean Nebeker of Preston on a voluntary manslaughter charge is set for today at 2 p.m. in Sixth District Court, Pres ton. Judge Francis J Rasmussen will preside. Nebeker is charged in the Dec 11 shooting death of Robert Pease of Boise and appeared at a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Don Harding last week, where he was bound over to district court.
William Bill Spackman 28 of Weston was chosen as Franklin County road supervisor by the board of commissioners replacing Owen Ames who retired after serving since June 13 1973 Spackman a Preston High School graduate holds diesel mechanics and welding certificates from Idaho State University and has worked as a welder in Kemmerer Wyo and in road construction Sheriff Arlando Larsen cautions four wheel drive and ORV enthusiasts as landowners report ORV use on fall planted grain fields A 58 year old man Howard C Bennett died Tuesday night at Preston hospital of a heart attack born July 4 1918 in Brigham City to Arcet E and Hannah Dalton Bennett.
A community effort launches a drive to support heart monitor access with initial targets of 3400 dollars and 6000 dollars and 5000 dollars proposed as milestone goals.
The Franklin County Hospital heart monitoring project seeks 12500 with 3400 raised so far. A Feb 14 kickoff luncheon will honor drive workers and major contributors at the hospital. Major donors include First Bank and Trust and numerous local businesses while a Pink Ladies candy sale runs Feb 9 and Feb 14 in Preston.
Preston Elks sponsor an Americanism Essay Contest for sixth to eighth grade boys and girls with a My Responsibility To My Country theme. Prizes include a $25 bond for local winners and state awards up to $100 for first place, $75 second, $50 third. Gene Harmer chairs. contact Exalted Ruler Paul Jensen for details. A Senior Citizen dinner is planned Saturday at noon at the American Legion Hall inviting area seniors.
Idaho Attorney General Wayne Kidwell will speak at the Lincoln Day dinner in Preston on February 16. Tickets are $5 per plate, with social hour at 7 pm and dinner at 8 pm. Kidwell, a Boise lawyer active in public service, has a long record in Idaho law and community involvement.
The Friends of the Academy urge Eastside School District to grant a long term lease or sponsor for the Oneida Stake Academy building. They say bond funds passed for restoration, but without a five year lease federal matching funds may be affected. Officials note work continues and that preservation benefits the community despite funding questions.
