Minstrel Show Planned Friday by Franklin Stake Groups

Franklin stake officials invite Oneida stake residents to attend a benefit performance by a 30 voice minstrel chorus. Proceeds fund chairs for the Relief Society. The show promises a sparkling lively program with skits medleys dances and novelty numbers.

West Side FFA Speaker Contest and Pest Drive

The West Side FFA held a public speaking contest with participants including Jay Schvaneveldt, Lyle Henderson, Stephen Bastian, Grant Mortensen, Mer lin Ward, and LaVere Martin. Jay Schvaneveldt won first, Henderson second, Bastian third, and Jay will compete in the district contest February 21 at Westonward chapel. The chapter also organized a pest drive to reduce animals, mice, rats, and magpies.

Burglars Fail To Crack Safe At American Foods Store

A Sunday night burglary at the American Foods store ended without the safe opening. Burglars gained entry via a hole from the Preston Whitney Irrigation Co. office, lowered themselves by rope, and used four electric caps that failed to open the safe. The dial was broken, and a Salt Lake City safe expert was summoned to drill it open. Two men, Gordon S. Little and Albert R. Haskinis, were jailed in Twin Falls as suspects. their luggage held burglary tools and dynamite sticks. Warrants were issued in Franklin and Cache counties for additional suspected break-ins.

Wounded Boy Geiting Shows Remarkable Recovery

14 year old Brent Smart of Preston was shot in the back at Salt Lake City. He was seriously wounded by a 22 caliber revolver and transported to a hospital. His condition improved rapidly with days of cautious progress and he was reported to be well enough to go home the following Saturday.

Legion Post aims to finish building roof with Seven Up sale

Preston merchants plan a promotion at multiple stores to aid the American Legion building under construction. Norton said 15 cents from each carton of Seven Up sold Saturday will go to the Legion, with prices set at 45 cents per bottle, two for 89 cents, and 24 bottles for 1.75.

Cpl Sterling Sant Wins Meritorious Commendation

Cpl Sterling L Z Sant of Preston is celebrated in the 51st signal battalion for meritorious conduct from July 1953 to July 1954. He earned praise for outstanding service and for establishing communications over hazardous terrain under very difficult conditions in the Far East. Sant, a former Preston High School graduate, arrived in Korea in December 1953 and wears the Korean Service Medal.
