After twenty one months in the Pacific he spent two weeks at home with his mother before departing to begin training. He traveled to the islands by ship through submarine waters and back on a Pan American clipper in fourteen hours.

Five Youths Escape Death In Bear River Crash
Five Franklin County youths narrowly escaped drowning when a sedan crashed over a bridge into the Bear River near Mink Creek just above the bridge. Terrance McCarrel of Preston drove the car. occupants were Carl Hall Ted Sargent George Eames Kent Neeley and McCarrel. The car overturned and drifted downstream in the swift icy water as rescuers worked in darkness.
