Twin Lakes Canal Company's Pioneering Irrigation Saga
The Oneida irrigation project in Preston Idaho grew from a 1901 community effort to irrigate 13 000 acres. Faced with bankruptcy and mismanagement a sugar company backed a rescue plan in 1917 led by W D Beers and L R Eccles the district was reorganized as a corporation and water repairs completed by 1920 with Jack Sanford as manager. The system now provides reliable water for Weston Linrose Dayton Clifton and Winder and remains among the county legacy irrigation projects.
