Rotarians Challenge Lions to Benefit Atlantic City Fund

The Rowdy Rotarians issued a challenge to the Languid Lions for a ball game with the loser to donate 50 to the On To Atlantic City fund. Gates proceeds go to the fund as Rotary supports Rhonda Hammond Miss Idaho 1965 in the effort. The game is set for August 21 at 7 30 p m at Preston City Recreation Park.

Mink Creek Students Moved to Whitney by School Board

Eastside school board voted to move all Mink Creek elementary students to Whitney for next year to balance teaching loads and eliminate six teaching positions. About 20 residents spoke, seeking details on plans as options considered include shifting Cub River wards or volunteering city students.

Fair Books And Build Preparations For County Fair

County fair premium lists will be mailed to former Franklin County Fair Exhibitors Friday. Buildings start August 16 and judging opens August 23. Chairman William Robinson reports record exhibits in fat beef and lamb and open class crafts and livestock. Horse exhibits include 52 new stalls. Renowned judges named for diary, livestock, crops, and home economics divisions. The fair opens to the public August 25.

Cable Cut Disrupts Preston Phone Service

A Preston grader cut a First East Down telephone cable last week, snapping about 900 to 1000 phones. Service resumed by Saturday afternoon after crews repaired wires and rerouted calls via Pocatello. areas Whitney and Fairview also affected.

Preston High Football Schedule and Gear Checkout Times

Preston High School outlines football gear checkout times set by coach Ivan Davis with separate slots for car, lettermen, seniors, juniors, sophomores and a team meeting on Thursday. The schedule includes September games against Grace, Soda Springs, Snake River, Shcily, Aberdeen, Shelly, Montpelier, Malad, Marsh Valley, American Falls and Minico with home and away designations and a bye week.

County Valuation Down From 1964 By $80,000

Franklin County real property valuation for 1965 is listed at $6,401,890, down about $80,000 from 1964. Assessor Marvin Gregerson cites less machinery assessed and removal of goods under the Freeport Law and $75,000 of stored sugar from the old Franklin County Sugar Company warehouse as causes. Sugar removal by Amalgamated Sugar likely would have occurred anyway under Freeport rules. Yearling values dropped about $16,000 while chickens milk sheep and other categories rose moderately. Irrigated land fell about $4,000 to $1,234,695 with 34,618 acres. non irrigated land rose 250 acres to about $1,000 in value across 92,615 acres.

Mink Creek Schoolhouse to Be Sold by School Board

The East Side school board put the Mink Creek Schoolhouse up for auction after an appraisal. Some plumbing fixtures and other items may be removed before sale. The school closed last year.

Six Enter District Farm Bureau Talent Find Contest

Six county residents will compete in the District Talent Find sponsored by the Farm Bureau. The district contest occurs August 17 at 8 p m in the McCammon ward chapel. County winners include Karen Bodily and Deanna Jensen with others in the senior and junior divisions. One senior and one junior winner advance to the Idaho State Talent Find in Pocatello in November. The event is open to the public.

Completion Date Nears For Street Project

City engineer Abert Moser said work will be completed on the street project by the planned date. Officials report progress and anticipate final paving and related improvements in the near term.
