County Budget Talks Adjust 1978 Plan and Hearings
Franklin County Commissioners met to finalize the 1978 budget totaling 2 313 263 with most departments lowered from asked figures. The hospital dominates the budget at 1 014 809 with only 67 000 from property taxes. many funds come from other sources. The hearing is set for Sept 6 at 10 a.m. in the Courthouse.

The 42nd Annual Preston Night Rodeo drew about 13 000 to 14 000 fans with three shows and paid out over 10 000 to cowboys. Tom Ferguson won Thursday night roping a calf in 10 seconds and multiple riders earned prizes across bareback, steer wrestling, calf roping, saddle bronc and team roping, with total gates over 28 000 as officials noted sellout crowds.
