The Preston night rodeo of 1955 drew near capacity crowds over three nights with top stock and acts. William Shumway and Virgil Knudson praised local cooperation, the Monte Young carnival, and well behaved crowds. Parade entries and riding clubs received high praise for performances.

Junior Stock Sale Debuts at Franklin County Fair

The 1955 Franklin County fair will feature a first annual junior fat stock show and sale. Calves fat lambs and fat hogs will be graded and sold by Cache Valley Auction Co on Aug 26. Entry requires 4-H or future farmer enrollment and three months livestock project experience. Plans call for expanding the calf scramble during the fair weekend in Preston.

Farmers Union Speaker to Address Preston Meeting

H B Rolph national vice president of Farmers Union will lecture at the Preston courthouse next Wednesday at 8 pm. A Montana native and longtime farmer he has headed the union since 1940 and served in that state legislature. He will discuss current farm problems and the union’s approach.

Amateur Rodeo Set At Preston Arena August 27

Franklin County fair board confirms the first combined amateur junior rodeo alongside the county fair. The event occurs at the Preston rodeo arena on Saturday August 27 at 8 p.m. Producers are Lee Schwaneveldt and sons of Weston and the Smith brothers of Riverdale. Junior entrants age 12 to 18 must contact Don Robinson or Miss Janice Schwaneveldt for forms by 5 p.m. August 26. A beef calf scramble intermission follows at 9 p.m.raiser.

Garage Fire Destroys Structure at Preston Residence

A garage at 333 East Oneida in Preston, home of Jacob Priestley, burned Tuesday night. Estimated damage around 1000 dollars. the building was unoccupied and the cause is under investigation. Firefighters also fought grass fires nearby earlier and later in the week.

In last night’s junior division play offs Weston ward defeated North Richmond ward 26 to 2 while Mapleton ward beat South Richmond ward 30 to 3. The winners Weston and Mapleton advance to Logan semi finals tonight at 7 30 and 8 30.

Special Hunts Drawing Held at Idaho Statehouse

A public drawing was held at 10 a.m. August 3 in the Idaho Statehouse Boise for the 1955 moose goat and sheep hunts. Units 13.9 moose 4 sheep and 1 2 3 4 11 goat failed to fill and will reopen until 5 p.m. August 11. A second drawing will follow after processing applications. Mark Larsen of Preston was a successful applicant for unit 1.

Local Farmers Union Plans Youth Camp at Bearlake

The Farmers Union youth camp will be held at Ideal beach on Bearlake August 9 to 13 for all juniors and leaders aged 13 to 18 whose parents are 1954 members. School Contractors Cleared to Finish New Addition

The school board met last night and authorized Williams and Anderson to finish the high school addition including the first and second floors cafeteria and gymnasium. Howard Schow was also asked to proceed with the vocational building. Bids for plumbing and heating in the new addition will open August 22. The legal notice is published elsewhere.
