Taxes less but harder to pay in Idaho 1949 says bulletin
The Associated Press notes Idaho taxpayers paid slightly less in direct taxes in 1949 due to lower federal income taxes and added exemptions, yet higher state and local taxes narrowed the net reduction. Federal revenue shortfalls prompt calls to curb expenditures, while federal contributions to Idaho rose about 20 percent. Property taxes moved up in 21 counties, lifting local charges nearly 10 percent overall despite a national tax decline.
