Nixon Opens 58 Stumping Tour With Stinging Attack
Vice President Richard Nixon opened his 1958 campaign circuit in Indianapolis addressing about 5,000 Republicans. He attacked Democratic critics of the Eisenhower administration, denouncing the ADA wing as leading to bankruptcy and government control of health, housing, power, and farming. He accused Truman and Acheson of aiding defeatism and warned Democrats against setting the pace for the campaign. He linked defense policy to Korea and warned against trusting peace at the cost of American lives.
