County forms pay study unit to advise on wages
From Our L A Bureau Supervisors approved a 10 member committee to study safety trends in city government and the impact of county wage increases on smaller cities. Chair Warren Dorn said each supervisor will appoint two city officials to report by March next year to aid bargaining with employee groups. The move follows complaints that large pay hikes for county firefighters and sheriff deputies strained city budgets and aims to refine the understanding of prevailing wages across categories. This year about 30 million dollars in raises affected roughly 70 000 employees.

LAPD to reorganize into four city bureaus
The Los Angeles Police Department announced a plan to create four geographic bureaus in the south west central and valley areas to bring operations closer to residents. 17 divisions will report to a deputy chief in one of the four bureaus with the central chief retaining an office at the headquarters. The first bureau opens this Sunday with 38 San Fernando Valley offices under Deputy Chief John A. McAlister. No tax money will be needed for the change, but it will require time.
