Bid to delay Watergate trial denied by Brennan
Supreme Court Justice Brennan refused a renewed bid by former Attorney General Mitchell and ex White House Chief of Staff Haldeman for a delay in the Watergate cover up trial citing pretrial publicity. Separately Jaworski asked for Strachan’s case to be severed and for more peremptory challenges when jurors are selected. The Watergate defendants include Mitchell Haldeman Ehrlichman Marchan and Parkinson with Strachan facing charges of conspiracy obstruction and lying. A House subcommittee announced hearings on presidential papers ownership while Senate officials moved to potentially alter Nixon material ownership rules.
