Need for power dents pollution controls in US
Washington officials told a joint defense appropriations committee the nation cannot meet strict pollution rules immediately without impacting energy and material supplies. Harold Seat, acting Commerce secretary, warned mineral producers face higher costs that could curb mineral and energy availability, while Scott noted only 10 percent of ballsite and alumina ore and limited aluminum are produced domestically. The share of domestic clay, coal, sulfur, silica and swtium meets needs, but reliance on other countries for chromite, columbium, manganese, banete, tin and platinum remains high.
