State banned firm on Calif. bridge project
Los Angeles contractor Polich Benedict, once banned after 10 fatalities and 171 injuries, is now involved in a Southern California state project the Division of Highways had barred. Assemblyman Fenton said the firm “circumvented” the ban and remains under scrutiny as other bidders enter the 22 million highway bridge job.

Tax plan called political ploy sparks Sacramento clash
San Francisco Gov Reagan faces criticism from Assembly Speaker Moretti who says the tax initiative shows no understanding of tax law or equity. Moretti calls the plan the single worst tax proposal for California voters as a special election on November 6 would cap state expenditures as a share of personal income.
